WHAT I BECAME is a photographic series about immigrants and the transformation of identity through the experience of starting a new life in America. Each person is presented through two images: a portrait and a “trace” — a visual fragment of the life they have built, the work they do, or the mark they leave on the world around them. Together, the two images explore not only who a person is, but who they have become.
